The subject Education of the college began its journey when it got permission from Dibrugarh University as General Subject in the year 2004. In the beginning of this Department , there was no Honours (major) Course. The major or Honours subject has been introduced in the year 2005. At present, there are 60 sanctioned seats for Honours. The department of education is running three years degree course ( B.A Honours and Non-Honours) under Dibrugarh University . there are three full time faculty in the department. The department publishes wall magazine namely “JATRA” and handwritten magazine namely “NEER” in every year. The department has a psychological laboratory with laboratory apparatus to carry out psychological experiments and tests among the major students.

All the SC, ST and OBC students of the college receive scholarship from the Government. THE State Government provides free admission for the BPL students from 2016. The meritorious students receive merit scholarships under ISHAN UDAY Scheme. The college also provides the facility to reduce tuition fees for meritorious students.

29. Teaching Methods Adopted to Improve Student Learning:
Different teaching methods have been using in our department according to the nature of the different papers. Along with the traditional methods e.g. Lecture methods, question-answer methods, chalk and talk methods, other interactive methods such as discussion methods, demonstration methods, learning by doing methods, experimental methods, field study methods are applied by the faculty of our department.
Departmental seminars , group discussions, class tests are held by the department to develop students knowledge, skill, confidence and co- operation. Tutorial classes are held during the off periods twice daily in a week for the slow learners. To develop learners innate capacities and potentialities co-curricular activities such as publication of wall magazines, hand written magazines collection of different seeds etc. are done by the department.

33. SWOC analysis of the Department and Future Plans:
A) Strength of the Department:
Education department is one of the most strong department of Sarbodaya college. Department can take pride in having dedicated and disciplined faculty. Production of good quality of students in every academic year is the most important strength of our department. All the faculty of our department treats the students in a friendly manner.
- Weakness of the department:
The socio-economic background of maximum students is a major weakness of the department. Many of the students are first generation learners from poor and backward families is one of the great drawback for the development of the department. Insufficient faculty is also one of the weakness of our department. Major drawback of our department is lack of English medium students. It would be a major challenge for the students in higher learning.
- Opportunities:
Learning of life skill education and child care development can be acquired by the learners of our department. The opportunity to learn the process of social reforms , making people aware about their social responsibilities and right of taking education can be possible to the learners of our department. The placement of output in different sectors ( government and non-government)is one of the main opportunity of the department.
- Challenges:
Lack of proper infrastructure including psychological laboratory apparatus, language problems of students belonging to socially , economically and educationally backward society and poor intake of quality students are the major challenge of our department.
Future Plans:
- The department has a plan to organize state level student seminar related to the subject education in the next academic year.
- The department has a plan to extend the department library in the next session.
- The department has a plan to publish I.S.B.N research journal in the next academic year
