- The department tries to render quality education for a better future of the students.
- The department has UGC norms qualified teachers.
- The faculty members of the department maintain a cordial and congenial relationship with the students.
- Weakness of the department:
- The department does not have enough faculty members.
- The institution does not offer major course in English although many students prefer to take English as major.
- Most of the students who come from vernacular medium of schools have a false notion regarding English as a tough language.
- Most of the students are first generation learners who even lack basic grammatical knowledge.
- The economic background of most of the students compels them to remain absent from their regular classes as many of them helps their parents to earn their livelihood.
- During monsoon season, the students residing in remote areas fails to attend their classes as most of these low-lying remote areas remains submerged under water.
- Opportunities:
- The college is the only Degree college in the entire Dergaon Legislative Constituency where majority of students come from economically weaker section of society who if opt to build a career taking English as honors is most suitable and accessible.
- The students opt to take English as honors can avail the opportunity if the affiliating university grants the permission to open English Department with honors.
- There is opportunity for students to avail the best in classes due to dedicated faculty members.
- There is new opportunity for students to avail additional training from spoken English course introduced by the department.
- Challenges:
- Students are unable to apply for honors in English as the affiliated university has not yet given permission to open the department to offer major courses.
- Rural geographical location and prominence of vernacular medium school constrains the understanding level of the language.
- Insufficient number of faculty members sometime fails to meet the need of individual attention and care to students.
- Geographical distance and lack of public transport hinders the regular attendance of the students.
Future Plans:
- To introduce career counseling programmes for the greater benefits of the students.
- To sign MoU with Kendriya Maha Vidyalaya, Jorhat to involve students in the programme of LED repair.
- To extend the Vermicompost project undertaken by the department to a larger unit thereby to involve larger number of students in the process.
