SWOC analysis of the Department and future Plans a. Strength of the Department: 1. Availability of Intake capacity- No definite figure of seat ismentioned in our department for students to take Political Science as an honours subject.Therefore, always enrolment is rich in the Dept. 2. Dedicated Teachers- All teachers of the department are dedicated minded and always remain ready for render their service for the benefit of the student. 3. Ph. D. holder Teacher- Among four facultymembers one is PhD holder. 4. Students Co-operation- Studentsalways cooperate with the teachers for the upliftment of academic andextension activities of the department and college as a whole. 5. The Dept. has published a yearly wall magazine named ‘Pekhapot’ and handilywriting magazine ‘Kurukhetra’ which are solely prepared by the Students of the Department.
b. Weakness of the Department: 1.Most of the Students come from the agrarian family for which some students cannot complete the course due to financial problems and other responsibility of the family. 2. Issue of provincialisation - One of our Faculty member post yet to be provincialized. 3. Lack of ICT facilities- Availability of ICT facilities is not very satisfactory. 4. Flood problem-Due to overflow water of Brahmaputra and nearest river Bhugdoi, affects the students along with teachers to maintain continuity of Classes at Summer season.
c. Opportunities of the Department: 1.Sarbodaya College is only Degree College of 97 No. Dergaon Legislative Assembly Constituency through which most of the students have cleared Degree programme by choosing Political Science as Honours Course. 2. By choosing political Science as an Honours Course the Students benefit in the area of acquiring knowledge in various aspect like goodgovernance, constitution, political system and good citizenship etc. 3. Eco-friendly environmental condition boosts our mantel health that brings healthy practices in curricular and extra-curricular activities of our students. 4. No cut of mark is determined by the Department and all interested Students can take the political Science as an honours subject.
d. Challenges of the Department: 1. Due to financial problem and family liabilities some students are drop out from the college without completed the course. 2. The level of awareness among some of the guardian is not satisfactory which create communicative problem sometimes among the Teachers and parents 3. 60% of the students come from different tribes that they have their own tribal language for which they cannot communicate properly with the mainstream. 4. Geographical distance and of public transport hinder the regular attendance of the students. |

e.Future plan of the Department: 1. Organize workshop, seminar- The department will take initiative to organize seminar, workshop etc. in regional and national levelfor the academic upliftmentof bothteachers and students. 2.Adaptation of student’s extension activities,field work,field survey- The department will take initiatives to adopt the students’ extension activities, field work, and field survey according to the related topics of the syllabus. 3. Publication of bilingual journal from the dept- The department will take initiatives to publish a bilingual magazine for the upliftment of writing skillsamong the students. 5. Introducing of PG course- The departmenthas the opportunity toopen PG classes in future.(The course was previously introduced in the college but due to some technical reason it was lapsed.) 6. Holding student enrichment programmeswith the help of external expert for upliftment of their academic activities. 7. Providing the adequate facility of library with reference books and journals. 8. Awareness programme will be organized on the subject related topics like political participation, democratic values, human rights, feministic issues, constitutionalrights and duties of the citizens etc. in the neighbouring area. |
