Department Profile
An Overview of the Department:
The subject Political Science of the college began its journey when it got permission from Dibrugarh University as general subject in the year 1988. It obtained affiliation for introducing Major course as Honours subject in 2003.At present our department have four faculty members. It is important to be noted that our present principal sir was the first H.O.D. of our department. Now IQAC coordinator belongs to our department. Now we have 95 no’s of sanctioned seats.
Besides teaching the Department organises Group discussion, class wise seminars so that the students will be able to understand properly the topic mentioned in the affiliating university syllabus, The students can express their views independently through their writing in the departmental wall magazine, hand writing magazine and all teachers offer all possible support in this regard. The teachers are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campus as and when required, our department has also student association and various meeting and function among with the student and teachers are organised in order to meet the requirement of the students and make the department dynamic.

SWOC analysis of the Department and future plans:
Strength of the Department: Availability of intake capacity – No definite figure of seat is mentioned in our department for Students to take political science as an honours subject. Therefore, always enrolment is rich in the Dept. Dedicated Teachers- All teachers of the department are dedicated minded and always remain ready for render their service for the benefit of the student. Ph. D. holder Teacher- Among four faculties one is Ph.D. holder. Students Co-operation- Students always cooperate with the teachers for the upliftment of academic and extension activities of the department and College as a whole. The Dept. has published a yearly wall magazine named ‘PEKHAPOT’ and handily writing magazine ‘KURUKHETRA’ which are solely prepared by the students of the Department. |
WEAKNESS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
-Most of the Students come from the agrarian family for which some Students cannot complete the course due to financial problems and other responsibility of the family.
- Issue of provincialisation- One of our faculty member post yet to be provincializes.
-Lack of ICT facilities –Availability of ICT facilities is not very satisfactory.
-Dropout problem- The has been facing dropout issue since last year’s which decrease the strength of the Department.
-Flood Problem- Due to overflow water of Brahmaputra and nearest river Bhugdoi, affects the Students along with teachers to maintain continuity of Classes at summer season.
OPPORTUNITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT:
-Sarbodaya college is only Degree College of Vast Dergaon Area through which most of the Students have cleared Degree programme by choosing Political Science as honours Course.
-By choosing Political Science as an honours Course the Students benefit in the area of acquiring knowledge in various aspect like good governance, constitution, political system and good citizenship etc.
-Eco- friendly environment condition boosts our mantel health that brings healthy practices in curricular and extra-curricular activities of our Students.
-No cut of mark is determined by the Department and interested Students can take the Political Science as an honours subject.
